Mauricio Herrera, a sophomore at Reedley High in California, placed second in the Division 2 boys final at the Central Section Championships by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 15:56.63 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Herrera helped Reedley secure runner-up as a team, with Reedley being edged by Monache by a 51-52 margin. Reedley advanced to race Nov. 25 at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park.
